This bright, colorful stained glass panel depicts the view looking through a valley to the Pacific Ocean. On one side in a purple field sit three bright California poppies. The leaves and center of the poppies have hand painted details. Growing from the purple field are a series of tall, Monterey Cypress trees, so emblematic of our beautiful Central Coast. On the other side of the ocean are bright and steep cliffsides in hues of orange and more subdued purples. The sky above is a moody, light blue glass with a gorgeous texture. The ocean below is a beautiful bright blue, crashing into the cliffside on the right and dispersing into a brilliant turquoise blue.
This piece is intricately made using copper foil. After each individual piece of glass is cut and ground down to remove any sharp edges, it is wrapped in copper foil, a thin strip of copper lined with a sticky backing to adhere to the glass. Once each piece of glass is wrapped in the copper foil, a thick ‘bead’ of solder is melted over those visible copper edges. I take my time ensuring the solder lines are beautifully smooth for a very polished look. This piece also has a thick edge, highlighting the unique irregular shape and providing structural support.
